HSE R&D are introducing Research Directorates in the six new Health regions. The first appointment is to the Midwest with Professor Declan Lyons as the new the Director of Research. It is an initial priority of the directorate to improve the governance structures around research and to smooth the way for prospective researchers to get through the various governance stages in a timely and efficient manner. In order to do this directorate has established medicalresearch.i.e. as its website and plans in the next short period to replace paper-based ethics committee submissions with an online ethics submissions.
