The HSE Midwest in NCHD Conference took place at University Hospital Limerick on May 15. The conference was opened by Ms Sandra Broderick REO. This was a major success with 224 diverse research projects admitted across all disciplines. Following a rigourous selection process 13 winning abstracts were chosen as the best to represent their specialties and presented on the day. The three internetwork finalists together with representatives from the major specialties presented and the winner of the intern best presentation was Dr Liadan Carty on the “Quality of anaemia care among prevalent patients undergoing haemodialysis”. The best overall communication went to Dr Emma Kearney from Public Health on “An analysis of factors associated with attendance at University Hospital Limerick Emergency Department and socio-economic position”. The conference was led by Prof John McManus NDTP training lead with the able assistance of Miss Verity Hayes and Miss Mairead de Brun. The keynote speaker on the day was Prof Linda Mulligan Chief State Pathologist on the subject of Dealing with death – forensic pathology in Ireland.
The conference was a major success and has established itself as a key event in the annual academic calendar.
