The annual NCHD Conference took place at the CERC Building at UHL on 28 May. The conference was convened by Prof. John McManus, ably assisted by Mairead De Brún and her team at the CERC. It was a highly successful and exceptionally well-organised event.
More than 230 abstracts were submitted. The overall winner was Ms Taya Keating from the Department of Surgery, who presented on a comparison of infection rates following robotic versus laparoscopic colorectal surgery. The study demonstrated lower CRP levels in patients undergoing robotic surgery compared with those treated using laparoscopic approaches.

The conference was opened by Prof. Margaret O’Connor, Assistant Regional Director with responsibility for Education, Research and Innovation. The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Dara Byrne, HSE National Clinical Lead for Simulation on “Simulation to Improve”.
The Research Directorate was delighted to support the event, and prizes were presented by Prof. Lyons, Director of Research.
